Double Digits

When I first signed up to run the Indy Mini-Marathon in May my dad had mentioned that one of his friends at work ran it every year and was interested in running it with me. I immediately agreed to it, having no idea how fast this guy ran and having never met him before. This weekend I had both the pleasure of meeting Lance and running with him.

I talked to him on the phone earlier last week about meeting up to go on a run and at first was a little nervous. He is in the Army so in my head I had pictured a big intimidating guy who would be pushing me the entire run yelling at me to run faster. I was so relieved when I  met him and he was quite the opposite. He was willing to run any pace that I wanted and didn't yell at me to hurry up once!

(I thought I would end up being like the guy on the right in this picture with an Army man pushing me to my limits. Thankfully that wasn't me on the run yesterday. Note: the guy on the left is my dad! Can you see why I imagined Lance to be a little intimidating?)

I met Lance at his house because he had a good 10 mile route planned out. We ended up running through a college campus and around a huge lake. The view was gorgeous and the weather was perfect.

Our splits are as follows:

We ended up finishing the 10 miles in 1 hour 35 minutes with an average pace of 9:33. Not bad for my first 10 miler! I felt some pain around mile 7 which is why we backed off our pace a little bit and today I'm feeling a little sore but after some rolling and spending time wearing my compression socks I'm feeling better! This week I plan to start tapering because the race day is in 11 days!

Question

Did you go on any runs over the weekend? Do you have a favorite route?

Another Long Run in the Books

I feel like I haven't posted on here in awhile because I was so busy working on papers for my online class but it is officially over! While I was gone did you guys check out my guest post on Avery's blog about staying on track with exercise? If not then you really should because I shared a lot of great tips that could come in handy for ya!

Workout

Over the weekend I went on another long run. I used my SPIbelt again and just like last time, it didn't let me down. This time I packed a Tri Berry GU Energy Gel, my ID, and keys.

Here's the breakdown of my run.

Mile 1 - 8:31
Mile 2 - 8:48
Mile 3 - 8:29
Mile 4 - 8:54
Mile 5 - 9:02
Mile 6 - 8:48 - ate the GU
Mile 7 - 8:55
Mile 8 - 8:52
Mile 9 - 9:47 - cool down

Total time - 1:20:05

I was super happy with this run. I felt good the entire time and the weather was perfect. I think that my Garmin only wanted me to run 9 miles because when I began my run it said "low battery" but I just ignored it, hoping it would last the entire run. As soon as I hit mile 9 I stopped the watch and then it said "run saved" and turned off! Guess that was a good indicator to quit :)

T-Shirts!

If you haven't done so yet, check out these super cute t-shirts I am selling for my aunt's fundraiser. The shirts are to help raise ovarian cancer awareness (the reason I am running my first half-marathon in May) and to help show your support with my training! Please help me out and buy one today for yourself or even a friend! Also if you live in the Fort Wayne or surrounding area you can be entered into a fun giveaway if you purchase a shirt! There are only a few days left to purchase them!

8 Miles & A Giveaway

* This giveaway is closed *

Today was the longest run I have ever been on. I was supposed to do the long run yesterday according to the schedule but I did it today instead as I had much more time. I ran 8 miles and was aiming for a pace closer to 9 minutes but hey, I'll take it!

On the run I took with me a GU Energy Gel and my phone, in which I carried in my SPIbelt.

When I first heard about running belts and fanny packs that held all of your gels, keys, and phone I was very skeptical. I figured that they would bounce and be uncomfortable to wear while running. I honestly never thought that I really needed one because I always just carried my phone in my hand on my runs and wasn't using gels on my runs that were less than 6 miles.

Today was actually my first time using an energy gel and my first time running with the SPIbelt. If I didn't have the SPIbelt I would be running with my phone in one hand and a GU pack in the other which would get annoying.

The SPIbelt that I wore was the Original style and it fit perfectly. I put my phone and a GU pack in the pouch and took off for my run. The belt did not bounce, slide up on my waist, or feel heavy at all. I honestly hardly even noticed it was there!

When my Garmin hit mile 5 I stopped and had the GU gel. I had never had anything like it before so I wasn't sure what to expect. The consistency was really thick and gooey. I think that I would have liked to have something with a thinner consistency but the taste wasn't bad so that's a plus.

I was feeling good the last couple of miles but was sure glad to finish. Once I got home I iced my legs as they were a little sore and then got ready to go and celebrate my grandpa's 76th birthday!

Disclaimer: I received these products free of charge, however all opinions are my own.

Roommate Bonding

* This giveaway is now closed *

I feel like I hardly have any time to fit in blogging lately with this new job because before it I was always writing my posts at night. Now I am trying to do everything when I get off work at 9:30 so it feels pretty hectic. I think that if I do them earlier in the day I won't feel as rushed at night with studying and blogging so we will give it a run for it's money this week.

On Saturday Jancee and I went to the mall and then to AT&T so she could get a new sim card for her phone. At the mall we spotted a few great deals at GAP. Alex's sister told me they were going out of business and everything was 50% off! I couldn't let this deal slide by so we went in and checked it out.

I picked up a running jacket, sunglasses, and some socks for me and because I couldn't walk out of there without something for Alex, I got him a plaid long sleeve shirt. As soon as I got in the car I immediately put on the new sunglasses I bought.

After all of the shopping we did, we were pretty hungry. If you follow me on Twitter you probably already know what we ended up picking up... Pita Pit! This was my first time going to this amazing little restaurant. Jancee recently got a job there and has been talking about it a lot so I had to try it.

I got the Gyro, which is seasoned beef strips, and I added green peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, and their Tzatziki sauce. The sauce was good and this combo was delicious. I will definitely be going there often to try out more combinations. Since it was my first time I was afraid to go crazy with the combos but I am sure next time I will change it up!

It was definitely a fun day with Jancee! Even though we live in the same tiny little box of a room together, we hardly get to do anything together very much with our busy schedules so it was much needed.

I actually wore the jacket I bought at GAP on my run today and it was super comfortable. It didn't bounce around even with heavy things (ie. keys, ID) in my pockets, kept me warm, and it even has thumb holes! My run today was my first official run of my half-marathon training! I will post my full training schedule soon.

It was nice outside and in the high 40s so I took advantage of it and ran 3 miles outside. I'm pretty sure that it is supposed to drop down into the 20s by the end of the week. It felt good to be outside but it was super windy and I felt that no matter which direction that I ran in that I was running into the wind.

Possibilities

Today we woke up early (9am!) and headed to Auburn with my mom, her friend, and my sister to do a little bit of window shopping and to eat lunch. We went to an antique shop and a general store before stopping by my favorite shop of the day, Possibilities.

It was such a cute little shop. Don't you just love their "Open" sign?

They had some furniture, tables, picture frames, jewelry, chalk boards, signs, and little knick-knacks.

They had so many different and fun clocks that really caught my eye. I debated buying one but had no idea where I would put it. They wouldn't fit anywhere in my room at school so I figured I would have to stash it away in my closet until I have a place of my own.

My mom came here awhile ago to do some Christmas shopping and actually bought me a chalkboard similar to the ones here.

My sister actually ended up buying this watch for 10 bucks!

After doing some shopping we were getting hungry. We went to a nearby restaurant called Auburn's House of Pancakes and Restaurant.

I ordered the Chicken Fajita Wrap. It was really good and stuffed with fajita chicken, mozerella cheese, peppers and onions. I was stuffed and couldn't even finish it all.

My mom and sister saw a deer in the addition last night and ever since then they think they are deer or something! We had some fun taking pictures in the restaurant.

When we got back I decided to go outside and run a quick mile. It was cold outside and the wind was super chilly. I also forgot some of my warmer running clothes at school so I didn't want to stay out in the cold for too long.

Notice something new in the above picture?! I bought a Garmin Forerunner 10 with my Christmas money and absolutely love it. I am so happy with it. I used it the other day when I walked my dogs just to test it out so today was my first time actually running with it. I love that it has a lot of different fun options, like telling you if you are on pace, counts your calories, and has a run/walk option. It's fun to download the run information to the computer and see all of your results too.

Do you have a Garmin watch? What are your thoughts on them? I love mine so far!
