Inside My Fridge

Workout

Before I get to talking about food I want to talk about today's workout and the lack of one yesterday. Yesterday I had 4 miles plus speed work scheduled and was planning on running when I got off of work. Whenever I got off I saw a text from a friend asking if I wanted to go to his sister's with him because they were ordering cookies and of course I said yes. I mean seriously, cookies beat running every time.

So today I did both speed work and strength training. I felt like crap with the sprints today. It might have to do with the fact that I ate lunch about an hour before.

Complete all of the reps/sets of each exercise before moving on to the next. Rest 15 seconds between sets!

What's in my fridge?

Ever wondered what is inside another person's fridge or cupboard?

Well today I thought it might be fun to share with you what I have stocked up in mine! Living in the dorms doesn't allow for a huge fridge or awesome cabinet space so I have a mini fridge that has a few things in it and some storage drawers packed to the brim with different snacks.

I always have a couple of water bottles for those days that I am running out of time to fill up my Brita water bottle. Lately I have been enjoying cheese sticks, hummus, and yogurt for snacks. I usually have Chobani Greek Yogurt in there but I ate it all and bought a thing of Yoplait Key Lime Pie Whips the other day for a treat.

When it comes to breakfast, I normally don't have time to sit down and eat a bowl of cereal but when I do I normally eat Special K Red Berries or Kashi Healthy Heart.

For the days I can't eat a bowl of cereal I eat granola bars. I'm not big into snacking but when I am hungry I'll grab one of them to munch on. I have found that I can eat the Special K Chocolate Pretzel bars about a half hour before a long run and feel amazing on it. Sometimes after a hard run or workout I will eat a Clif bar (not shown) or a Clif Builder's Bar for extra protein.

Some other favorite snacks of mine are fruit snacks and beef jerky.

And for a boost of energy and a chocolate treat I will grab a handful of chocolate covered coffee beans. These are perfect when studying or just to satisfy a sweet craving.

Trail mix, dried fruit, cheese with sticks, and CHEEZ-ITs are also a snack around here. I'm always reaching for a big glass of water and CHEEZ-ITs after a long run if I don't feel good. I don't know why - maybe it's the salt in them - but I always feel 10x better after eating them.

And what college student do you know that does not have Ramen somewhere in their room?

I always have a bag or two of Pretzel Crisps, Food Should Taste Good Chips, and The Better Chip stashed away. I love eating the Original Pretzel Crisps with hummus! And let's face it, eating these versus Doritos or Lays is so much better for you and you feel better afterwards too.

I also have a bag full of nut butters. Whenever I want to jazz up a piece of fruit then I get one of these out and spread it on the fruit for some extra flavor and protein.

Out of all of these snacks, the ones that I have to have in my room are CHEEZ-ITs, yogurt, granola and protein bars, beef jerky, and something sweet to satisfy my taste buds.

Update: Since graduating college, I have created another great post - Healthy Snacks for College Students That Won't Break the Bank. It is full of healthy options and tips and I would love for you to check it out!

Uncle Sam's Cereal Review

Hello everyone! I hope your week has been going great so far. I can't believe the week is almost half way over. I have been getting used to my new schedule and have been able to get all of my workouts in. All of my classes are in the morning and I work in the evenings so I have been working out between the two. I feel like that some of my classes are going to have a lot of homework and reading assignments so I hope I can still manage everything once the classes get more in-depth. I started today off with coffee from my Keurig! I used one of the Vanilla Latte k-cups, added some Silk Vanilla PureAlmond milk and ate a Peanut Butter CLIF bar. I would say that it was a good start to my day.

Workout

Yesterday I was able to get a quick 2.5 mile run in. After not running as much as I had planned over winter break, my legs were pretty sore today. For today's workout I focused on arms and threw in a few weighted lunges and plies. I was going to do my Superset Arm Workout but I wanted to get in and out and some guys who were working out were using the bench so I changed up the workout and made up a different, but similar, circuit of front and side arm raises, bicep curls, and tricep extensions.

Uncle Sam's Cereal

A few weeks ago I contacted Attune Foods to see if they were interested in participating in the New Years Resolutions Giveaway and they said yes. They also offered to send me a couple of their cereals to try out and review on the blog. I was more than happy to try out the cereals and they arrived on my doorstep a few days later.

The first thing I noticed when I opened up the package was a handwritten note. This just made me love the company even more and loved that they had put in a little extra effort which makes their company feel more personable!

Attune Foods sent me two boxes of their Uncle Sam's Cereal. I was sent the Original and the Raisin Bran to try. When I browsed around on their website I also saw that they have a Strawberry cereal as well and I think that I would really love that one.

I love that the cereals have so few and simple ingredients. They are made with whole wheat kernels which makes the cereal high in fiber and heart-healthy! The 10 grams of fiber help to make you feel fuller, longer and I agree that it did just that. I also love that the cereals have less than 1 gram of sugar because most cereals, even if they are supposed to be healthy, still have a lot of sugar in them.

I liked the Original but I really loved the Raisin Bran cereal. The Original wasn't sweet enough for me (I will probably use it when baking) and the raisins in the Raisin Bran cereal added a natural sweetness. Uncle Sam's is also very generous with the raisins which made me really happy.

Overall, I would recommend that you try this cereal. If you are not a cereal person in the mornings, the Original would also be great in yogurt, cookies, crusted chicken recipes, and many more! You can find some great recipes submitted by others by clicking on this link. I will probably be buying the Uncle Sam's Strawberry Cereal in the near future and be making some Peanut Butter No-Bake Cookies with the Original cereal! Yum!

Disclaimer: I received these products free of charge, however all opinions are my own.

100 people, Thirteen Dollars

I am still collecting donations for my aunt's charity account. I am aiming to get 100 people to donate $13 (one dollar for every mile I am running in the race). If you would like to donate you can via the PayPal button on the top right corner of my blog. To learn more about my aunt click here or visit the Donate tab on my blog!

Do you have any tips for managing a busy schedule?
Have you tried Uncle Ben's Cereals? Do you have any fun recipes made with the cereal?

You're Beautiful

Last night I watched the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. I didn't watch the show last year but this year's music, outfits, and performances were all amazing. After the show I was also informed that two of the models had given birth just a couple months before the show! I would have never have been able to even pick out which models they were because they all looked good. All of the women had amazing bodies and pretty faces and I know that most people who workout every day strive to look like that but in reality it's not that easy.

The models get paid millions to look good and follow a strict diet and exercise regimen that is not suitable for people who go to school or work full time. I read online that some of the models workout up to 6 hours a day and others consume liquid diets of only protein shakes.

During the show my Twitter feed blew up with tweets about the show. Some tweets included things such as "there goes my self-esteem," "most depressing hour of my life," and "eating my sorrows away." It makes me sad to see girls think of themselves as fat, unhealthy, or unattractive because they compare their selves to the models on TV and what society depicts as the "perfect" body.

Now we can't all have personal trainers and personal dieticians, but working out a few times a week and eating healthy is a good start to being as healthy and fit as you can be! Don't fall into believing that women should look a certain way and weigh a certain amount. The number on the scale does not matter, what matters is that you are healthy and feel good about yourself!

Workout

On the schedule for today was a 5 mile run but due to lack of time and it getting dark outside, I only completed 4 miles. It felt great running outside today and I think that I would have been able to easily run another mile. The splits for my miles are below. Mile 2 and 3 were a bit slower than mile 1 but mile 4 was back on track to almost the same time that mile 1 was. I was happy with my splits and was even happier that my mile 4 was almost the same time as mile 1.

Food

After my run I grabbed some food! First, I had a Clif Builder's Protein Bar that was jam packed with protein. I got the chocolate flavor to try and Jancee got the chocolate peanut butter flavor bar so we tried each others. I liked the chocolate one but I think I would rather have the chocolate peanut butter.

Then I had a pb&j sandwich, carrots & celery sticks with ranch, grapes, and a cheese stick. I think that school is starting to get on the kids-want-to-eat-healthier bandwagon because today we saw they started offering veggies in the grab-n-go section. After eating dinner I headed off to my night class.

Do you ever find yourself comparing yourself to the models on TV?
